Most automation projects fail on the diagnosis, not the engineering. A tool gets pointed at the step that was easiest to describe, the step upstream keeps producing the same messy input, and the savings never show up in anyone's week.
Optimization is the work of finding out where the time really goes. Sometimes the answer is a micro-agent. Sometimes it is a form field, a routing rule, or removing a review step that stopped catching anything years ago. We would rather tell you that than sell you a system.

Someone exports a report, reformats it, and pastes it into another tool. The handoff is the workflow, and it happens dozens of times a week.
Queues that only one person understands
Routing decisions live in someone's head. When they are out, the queue backs up and nobody else can safely clear it.
Review steps that rubber-stamp
A human approves nearly everything that reaches them. The check is real on paper, but it stopped catching anything a long time ago.
Rework that shows up downstream
Errors surface two steps later, in a different team, where the cost of fixing them is highest and the cause is hardest to trace.

We sit with the people doing the work and record the workflow as it actually runs, including the exceptions nobody documented. The output is a step-by-step map with volumes, handoffs, and where time is going.
Rank
Every candidate step gets sized: how often it runs, how long it takes, how much judgment it needs, and what it costs when it goes wrong. You get a ranked list, and the honest answer about which steps should stay manual.
Redesign
The highest-value steps get decomposed into bounded tasks with typed inputs and outputs, so the deterministic parts can be automated and the judgment calls can be routed to a model or a person on purpose.
Measure
We agree on the baseline before anything changes, then track the same numbers after. If a change does not move them, it does not stay.
